About The Position
At Velocity Risk, we are redefining the landscape of specialty property insurance, particularly in catastrophe-prone communities. Our innovative approach connects risk and capital, allowing us to embrace nature's volatility and transform traditional insurance practices into opportunities for growth. As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in this transformation, taking on the challenge of building a substantial book of business while also mentoring and coaching a team of underwriters and underwriting assistants. This position is not just about underwriting; it’s about leading a team and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and underwriting a book of business valued between $25-40 million in Commercial Lines. Your expertise will be crucial in determining risk acceptability, pricing, and adhering to underwriting guidelines. You will also be tasked with developing and maintaining positive relationships with agencies within your assigned territories, auditing underwriting files, and enhancing underwriting processes. As a front-line manager, you will actively engage with your team, providing coaching and support to help them develop their skills and improve their performance. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will partner with various business units, including Claims, Compliance, and Operations, to prioritize projects and implement best practices that optimize underwriting and overall business performance. Your ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships will be essential as you work to present new ideas and solutions to enhance our underwriting framework and product offerings.
