About The Position

Guardian is seeking a Senior Underwriter to identify risk selection for Multi-Life Life and Disability. You are a confident, independent professional with exceptional consulting and negotiation skills. You consistently demonstrate sound judgment and can clearly articulate your decisions on a case-by-case basis, balancing analytical rigor with strategic insight to support business objectives. You will understand current market trends to offer competitive plan designs for employees of companies who agree to pay for or market Guardian Supplemental Income Protection and Individual Life Products. Evaluate the risk profile of each case by analyzing key risk levers, including financial, occupational, etc., to ensure sound underwriting decisions aligned with company guidelines and risk tolerance. Coach and mentor underwriters across the department, fostering professional growth and consistency in decision-making. You will also contribute to cross-functional projects, representing the underwriting perspective to ensure risk strategies are aligned with business goals. Negotiate with sales representatives and communicate details of program offers. Collaborate with teams in pre-sale and pre-enrollment activities. Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external contacts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of insurance risk management experience.
  • Experience in life and disability underwriting.
  • Experience in Guarantee Issue Case Level Underwriting for Individual Disability and Executive Benefit Life is a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of Individual Life and Group Life, Group Long Term Disability, Individual Disability, and/or Supplemental Income Protection products.
  • Aptitude for problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Ability to engage others to combine expertise and problem solving.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team and pivot to multiple tasks.
  • Ability to remain adaptable and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to interact with confidence and build rapport.
