About The Position

Come join our growing North America Specialty Wholesale Healthcare Team as a multiline underwriter focused on the West! Candidate will underwrite healthcare professional & general liability policies for specialized products in miscellaneous medical facilities/allied with the opportunity to underwrite other products within our 17+ product suite. Working within underwriting authority, the Senior Underwriter makes analytical, data-driven decisions, including risk assessment and pricing. Role is hybrid or virtual based on location. Level and title may be adjusted higher based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
  • A minimum of 2.5 years, typically 3 or more years, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related experience
  • Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility that includes competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process, and proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques
  • Must demonstrate comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues
  • Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business

  • CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manages portfolio of brokers/agents and clients.
  • Leverages market presence and knowledge to develop and underwrite profitable business, acting as a representative for Ironshore, a Liberty Mutual company.
  • Maintains a strong market presence, including established relationships with wholesale brokers.
  • Looks to strengthen these relationships and develop new ones.
  • Contributes ideas for product development and participates in development and execution.
  • Contributes to team projects (e.g., process / tool improvement).
  • Understands the work implications of relevant legislation and regulation.
  • Collaborates effectively across teams, stakeholders, and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial).
  • Mentors peers and new hires.
  • May recognize and communicate emerging trends of exposures within line of business expertise.
