About the role Dow has an exciting opportunity for Senior TS&D Scientist position at Midland, MI . The Silicone Elastomers North America TS&D (Technical Service and Development) group at Dow Performance Silicones plays a pivotal role in supporting a diverse range of markets, including Transportation, Lighting, Industrial, Electrical, Medical, and Consumer sectors. This position is designed for professionals who are passionate about driving business growth and innovation, particularly in the area of Advanced HTV (High Temperature Vulcanization) Silicones for the Medical (majority) and Industrial markets. The position will involve executing and driving innovation projects to develop, validate and commercialize new materials for customers. The position will also involve working in the application lab in Midland developing and optimizing new and existing formulations and working with customers to address their technical challenges related to the product, process and application. Up to 25 % travel can be involved visiting various customer sites within the Unites States.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Material science and Engineering/Biomedical engineering or polymer engineering or similar field.
  • A minimum of 7 years in relevant industry experience required
  • Experience in engaging with customers, facilitating meetings, and representing Dow in external environments
  • Ability to travel (up to 25% of time)
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Silicone elastomer chemistries
  • Knowledge of silicone fabrication techniques (Injection molding, compression molding, extrusion, calendaring, etc.)
  • Experience in medical materials and regulatory requirements
  • Track record of working with OEM’s, tiers and fabricators

Responsibilities

  • Develop fundamental structure/property/performance relationships and translate customer technical requirements into product solutions.
  • Work with the customers in various markets to understand their CTQ’s (Critical to Quality Requirements) and unmet needs.
  • Identify the type of solution required based on cost/performance trade off and position the right Dow technology to the customers (silicone / non silicone based) that will provide a differentiated offering and value to the customer.
  • Perform formulation development and optimization, prepare formulations and test in the application testing laboratory with the support from technologists to ensure that they meet the customer specifications.
  • Work cross functionally with global TS&D, R&D, process engineering and commercial team on commercialization of new technologies in a variety of medical applications for customers.
  • Work with distributors to identify existing technologies or develop new technologies for current and new applications.
  • Evaluate the potential for IP for new formulations by conducting a comprehensive IP search and file patents for the new IP generated.
  • Utilize tools effectively to share knowledge throughout the organization internally ( e.g. technical documentation in Electronic lab notebooks, Invention Concept Document submissions, customer call reports, training material development, technical reports, application bulletins, create digital content)
  • Promote Dow technologies externally via papers in technical conferences, article and journal publications, webinars, etc.
  • Use existing knowledge and develop expertise in the application test labs.
  • Work safely in the laboratory on different chemistries and equipment whilst conforming to Dow’s safety requirements.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Interact with Performance Silicones Supply chain, tech center, quality and manufacturing to support the resolution of ‘QNs’ and the qualification of local manufactured materials.
  • Continuous technical improvement to develop individual application knowledge through networking with TS&D, Product development, and process R&D; maintain awareness of new solutions developed across the organization.
  • Develop expertise in product performance, application and processes.
  • Develop new methods for testing and evaluating functional performance of materials in applications.
  • Work with different businesses in Dow on existing and new synergistic opportunities.
