About The Position

The Senior Tribal NEPA Specialist (Senior Environmental Professional) will support Montrose's work with Tribal Nations to foster meaningful collaboration with Tribal communities, champion internal cultural proficiency, and establish respectful partnerships. We are seeking candidates experienced with NEPA and Fee-to-Trust projects who will be responsible for supporting the development and management of environmental projects focusing on sustainability and conservation. The selected candidate will be responsible for working with a project team to coordinate project tasks, assist with maintaining project workflow, utilize database software to administer information by updating project status, manage electronic project documents, have good communication skills, and meet client expectations. The candidate will also enhance Montrose's ability to provide high-quality Tribal Services by both pursuing new clients and supporting existing projects over a broad geography. This position will apply progressive knowledge typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities may include managing projects/processes and working independently with limited supervision—coaching and reviewing the work of team members.

Requirements

  • College/University degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Law or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience as a consultant with a specific emphasis on federal and Tribal regulatory experience.
  • Experience with project management and technical responsibility, including leadership of others.
  • Direct experience and knowledge of environmental regulations, managing development and QA/QC of NEPA and CEQA planning documents.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Tribal Nations and addressing complex issues across multiple agencies.
  • Proven ability to develop positive relationships with Tribal Nations and Bureau of Indian Affairs.
  • Strong client facing skills including relationship building, communication, and problem solving.
  • NEPA experience managing EAs and/or EISs and working with Tribal Nations for Fee-to-Trust applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across offices and regions.
  • Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided software (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Provide project management and environmental planning knowledge for Tribal Fee-to-Trust projects.
  • Support environmental impact analysis, coordination of biological and cultural assessment, NEPA and/or CEQA research and document production.
  • Coordinate relationship-building with Tribal Nation partners/clients.
  • Implement transparent communications with Tribal governments and Indigenous Communities.
  • Assist in data gathering and write/review sections for CEQA/NEPA documents.
  • Prepare permit applications and coordinate with consultants and project team members.
  • Manage and maintain budget tracking and schedule tracking.
  • Participate in the company's continuous improvement programs.
