About The Position

VHB’s Watertown and Boston offices are looking for a Senior Transportation Planner /Project Manager in the Transportation Planning and Operations group to join our growing teams. VHB is seeking experience in the Institutional Market Sector, including Educational and Health Care Facilities. Successful candidates will have proven experience in winning and executing institutional projects within the Greater Boston and larger New England region. In addition to the responsibilities, skills, and qualifications noted below, the candidate must demonstrate an acumen for strategic thinking, business development, professional networking, have a proactive approach, and experience with developing and maintaining key client and teaming partner relationships.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with an ability to think critically and solve challenges
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and with strong attention to detail
  • Excels working in a team environment and is able to lead and motivate a multidisciplinary team of professionals
  • Enthusiasm for growing business opportunities and presenting at conferences
  • Understanding of market trends and policy directives impacting the institutional marketplace
  • BA in Planning or BS in Civil Engineering required.
  • Minimum 11-15 years of experience in campus transportation planning/engineering and/or site/civil engineering experience.
  • Professional licensing required (e.g. AICP, ASLA or PE)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage institutional client relationships.
  • Manage all aspects of higher education, K-12 schools, and healthcare projects of varying sizes through all phases of project development, including Construction Administration, and staffed by multidisciplinary teams.
  • Apply deep understanding of multimodal planning and analysis to transportation design and campus systems.
  • Manage, mentor, and provide technical and professional development of staff.
  • Engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues.
  • Participate in professional organizations that promote relationships with institutional owners and teaming partners.
  • Develop new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions.
