SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, CALTRANS
About The Position
Under general direction of the Chief, Office of Maintenance Engineering (a Supervising Transportation Engineer), this position will have varied and difficult transportation engineering work involving the supervision of civil engineers and others engaged in the development and design of traffic safety projects and HM projects. Directs and supervises Associate Transportation Engineers, Transportation Engineers (Civil) Ranges A-D, and Transportation Engineering Technicians in the application of traffic engineering principles and methods, primarily in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates. PE Registration is required.

- Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans exam.
- For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
- Candidates that believe they meet the minimum qualifications based on a pattern of education from the classification description (specifications) must provide a copy of their degree, transcripts, license, and/or certificate, along with the State application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position.
- Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
- If you are basing your eligibility on education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for verification.
- Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a transcript/degree U.S. equivalency report evaluation that indicates the number of units and degree to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.
