About The Position

Under the general direction of the Supervising Transportation Engineer for the Office of Environmental Engineering, the incumbent supervises and performs professional engineering work pertaining to hazardous waste studies. These duties require close collaboration with staff of other units within the Department as well as consultants and other government agencies. The incumbent is responsible for timely delivery of hazardous waste site investigation reports and project specifications relating to hazardous waste. The incumbent will ensure regulatory compliance with the Aerially Deposited Lead (ADL) Agreement between Caltrans and the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).

Requirements

  • Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans exam.
  • Professional Engineer License (Civil) issued by State of California
  • Class "C" driver's license required.
  • Statement of qualifications (SOQ) required.
  • Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
  • If you are basing your eligibility on education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for verification.
  • Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a transcript/degree U.S. equivalency report evaluation that indicates the number of units and degree to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of all phases of Caltrans transportation projects, from programming through close of construction, project management concepts, impact of transportation projects on the environment, techniques of personnel management, and supervisor's role in implementing human resource objectives.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of others, communicate complex engineering concepts in plain language, and analyze situations to determine the appropriate and effective course of action.
  • Experience with constructibility issues and risk assessment.
