About The Position

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to organize and direct our multimodal traffic engineering program. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of making our transportation systems efficient, safe, and forward-looking — from managing congestion and bottlenecks to driving our long-term goal of zero fatal and serious injury crashes by 2040.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in transportation/traffic (Master’s preferred).
  • Seven (7) years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering (Master’s degree may substitute for two years).
  • Georgia Professional Engineer (PE) license required; PTOE and RSP certifications preferred.
  • Strong background in traffic software (Synchro, VISSIM, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.) and project management.
  • Proven ability to lead programs, manage projects, and communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to innovative, data-driven solutions and to staying current with industry best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the City’s multimodal traffic engineering program, including safety and operational analyses.
  • Manage roadway safety studies, intersection improvements, and traffic calming initiatives.
  • Review and approve traffic engineering studies, control devices, temporary traffic control plans, and special permits.
  • Develop and implement solutions to reduce congestion and enhance safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
  • Collaborate with City leadership, departments, and the community to ensure responsive, data-driven transportation solutions.
  • Lead updates to traffic policies, standards, and enforcement tools to keep Sandy Springs moving safely.
