About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer Lead in Raleigh, NC to lead and work on traffic solutions for our client, The N.C. Department of Transportation Operations Center (STOC). This role will support a 24/7 traffic operations center which requires synchronization of engineering tasks in a fast paced environment. Your role Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. Duties usually include the following: Leads personnel management activities of a team of traffic and system engineers including hiring, scheduling, training and professional development, morale and team-building, and corrective actions. Organizes and conducts engineering investigations and planning work which have a well-defined scope. Support the development of planned/unplanned events, traffic data, road geometrics, construction plans, and other inputs to understand and plan for traffic impacts and mitigation strategies. Develop and maintain response plans and other resources to support traffic operations. Interface with construction project stakeholders and provide regular support related to the management and operations of major work zones. Participates in conducting engineering investigations and planning work by completing well-defined tasks. These tasks may include collection and analysis of data using established procedures, performance of routine calculations, and participation in evaluating the feasibility of alternate solutions. Organizes and conducts engineering investigations and planning work which have a well-defined scope. Outlines and prepares relatively straightforward reports and dashboards (PowerBI, Excel, Word) of sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional. Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications. Contributes to the development of specifications and permit applications and writes miscellaneous reports. Prepares preliminary man-hour, cost and material quantity estimates. Participates in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others. Coordinates with other disciplines as required. Performs field observations of construction where appropriate. A high degree of analytical skills that analyze and consolidate data into meaningful metrics and report KPIs (key performance indicators) to the client. Proficient in code and program languages (Python, Power BI, JSON) to deliver reports and analysis. Project manage smaller-scale projects and tasks. Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
  • This level may be achieved by Engineers with five years’ experience since B.S.; four years’ experience since M.S.; Incumbents typically have six to ten years’ since Bachelor’s degree.
  • Good technical writing, analytical and communications skills.
  • P.E. license is required.
