The Clean Products Senior Trader position is a crucial part of the cross-functional organization integral to maximizing refining output value for MPC while meeting customer demands. This Clean Products Senior Trader will be responsible for executing purchases, sales, buy-sells, and exchanges for finished gasoline and distillate as well as gasoline and distillate components dictated by refinery economics marketing demands, market conditions, and logistics to maximize economic margin consistent with safe supply chain operations and other MPC core values. This role offers an exciting growth opportunity for a highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills and a keen interest in a commercial career. This role will primarily be focused on MPC’s growing international business and may have exposure to various commodities within the value chain. This role will provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain an understanding of the clean products supply and trading while performing a complex and critical function.

  • Actively trade the clean products export and import markets, primarily focused on MPC’s medium term trading strategy and longer duration trading.
  • Interface directly with traders, schedulers and analysts in the Singapore and London offices to generate and execute global trading strategies.
  • Work closely with blue water marine team on forward freight calls, vessel optimization and trading strategy.
  • Develop and implement negotiating tactics to complement planned sales/supply strategies and to increase the efficiency of such activities.
  • Continuously review market conditions and the short- and medium-term supply and sales plans; recommend and implement changes to optimize overall value to MPC.
  • Evaluate and execute discretionary trade and business development opportunities beyond the core business.
  • Initiate and complete negotiations and execute or recommend execution of deals that maximize economic benefits to the company.
  • Build and maintain internal and external relationships with counterparties and business partners.
  • Prepare periodic reports on market activities and supply/demand or competitive developments.
  • Collaborate with the value chain and various members of the extended business team to stay abreast of trading, logistical and financial activity.
  • Participate in the negotiation or development of commercial resolutions impacting trading desk.
  • Analyze and anticipate market conditions to optimize economic value added from purchases, sales, and exchanges in the medium term.
  • Manage basis commodity exposure and/or physical inventory position to maximize market structure value within operational constraints.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in Trading or Marketing including profit/loss responsibility for Product Trading, Contract Negotiation and Scheduling.
