This role is for a Senior TPF Systems Engineer / TPF Platform Architect responsible for managing and optimizing TPF operating systems and databases, ensuring high availability and performance for airline transaction processing systems. Key functions include leading large-scale TPF Operating System upgrades (PUTs) across multiple airline TPF complexes, each with unique configurations and operational constraints. The role involves managing the evaluation, customization, and deployment of hundreds of IBM APARs per release, impacting thousands of interdependent software components across the TPF stack, and overseeing continuous IBM software intake to determine applicability, risk, integration approach, and implementation sequencing. The position also entails designing, maintaining, and optimizing fixed and pool record structures and TPFDF database software and schemas, planning and executing database expansions, reorganizations, and structural changes to support growth, performance, and resilience. Further responsibilities include developing database descriptors and tooling for recoup and recovery operations, supporting test environment data integrity through PCI-compliant database cleansing solutions, and implementing file system monitoring, backup strategies, and recovery processes for production and non-production environments. The architect will direct comprehensive testing strategies, including system integration testing, user acceptance testing, performance validation, and fallback validation, and execute production implementations with strict availability commitments, including zero downtime for loosely-coupled complexes and minimal outage windows for uni-processor systems. Developing, validating, and rehearsing fallback, recovery, and rollback procedures to ensure rapid service restoration is also critical. Additionally, the role provides architectural consulting for new client pursuits, platform enhancements, and technology modernization initiatives, leads or supports data center migration efforts, and responds to client requests for software designs, system architecture reviews, and feasibility analysis. The position requires deep, hands-on experience with IBM TPF, TPFDF databases, high-availability architectures, and airline transaction processing systems, along with proven ability to manage large-scale upgrades, performance engineering, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance in 24x7 environments. Strong consulting, planning, and cross-functional leadership skills are essential, with the ability to influence clients and internal stakeholders.
