Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • 15+ years of mechanical/thermal systems engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and thermal engineering principles
  • Experience with 1-D fluid system modeling
  • Experience with heat exchanger design/sizing
  • Experience supporting prototype and/or production builds
  • Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup
  • Ability to meet Anthropometric Size Requirements (ASR) for confined military vehicle environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting ground combat vehicle programs
  • Experience working in DoD or defense vehicle environments
  • Familiarity with military vehicle packaging constraints
  • Experience supporting supplier technical management and source selection

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical and thermal design engineering of powerpack (engine/transmission), electronics cooling, and crew cabin HVAC systems
  • Derive vehicle-level performance requirements and develop/release engineering specifications
  • Perform 1-D fluid flow modeling and analysis to size and optimize distribution systems
  • Conduct heat exchanger sizing and optimization
  • Develop alternative design concepts and perform trade study analyses
  • Design, select, and integrate HVAC components and subsystems
  • Develop CAD studies and collaborate with design teams to create objective models/drawings
  • Track and manage weight, cost, thermal, and power allocations
  • Develop and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and release drawings per the Engineering Release Plan (ERP)
  • Prepare and support supplier documentation including SOW, CIDS, ICD, SSP, and RFP packages
  • Perform supplier source selection evaluations and technical proposal reviews
  • Provide technical oversight to suppliers during design, development, validation, and testing
  • Support prototype builds; develop test plans, execute validation testing, and generate reports
  • Conduct engineering evaluations in laboratory environments
  • Investigate and resolve production, supplier, and field issues; implement corrective actions
  • Support formal Design Reviews and present technical findings
  • Develop project plans, ROMs (Rough Order of Magnitude estimates), BOEs (Basis of Estimates), and cost estimates
  • Travel up to 20% to supplier sites, facilities, and military installations
