About The Position

The Per-Diem Senior Radiation Therapist is responsible for providing patient education to maximize compliance with care plans and family education when needed. This role involves the efficient operation of the assigned clinical treatment area and serves as a resource to Therapist Staff for resolving clinical issues. The Senior Radiation Therapist coordinates activities to ensure quality treatment delivery and optimal utilization of equipment and personnel. They also instruct new staff in quality assurance and improvement practices, work with management to develop new techniques, triage emergent cases, manage equipment failures, and document treatment delivery information accurately. The position may involve teaching in the School of Radiation Therapy and participating in specialty areas such as Clinical Instruction and Stereotactic Radiation surgery. The Senior Radiation Therapist is expected to maintain Continuing Education Credits for licensure and actively participate in professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAHEA accredited educational program or equivalent.
  • Active certification by the ARRT.
  • Valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.
  • Ability to supervise Staff Radiation Therapists and students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient education to maximize compliance with care plans.
  • Efficiently operate the assigned clinical treatment area.
  • Serve as a resource to Therapist Staff for resolving clinical issues.
  • Coordinate activities to ensure quality treatment delivery.
  • Utilize and instruct new staff in quality assurance and improvement practices.
  • Work with management to develop new techniques or resolve clinical problems.
  • Triage emergent cases and negotiate scheduling of patients.
  • Manage team during equipment failures and facilitate machine down procedures.
  • Document treatment delivery information and record treatment variances.
  • Assess patient data pertinent to age-specific needs.
  • Instruct and orient new Radiation Therapists and students.
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner.
  • Model appropriate behavior and good clinical judgment.
  • Participate in specialty areas such as Clinical Instruction and Stereotactic Radiation surgery.
  • Lead and support departmental meetings when called upon.
  • Maintain documentation of Continuing Education Credits.
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations.
  • Assume managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Therapist Manager.
