About The Position

The Senior Therapeutics Discovery Technician shall provide senior laboratory support for research efforts of the MBD. Support shall be required in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 environments. Contractor shall provide support in the planning and conduct of basic and applied research on current and emerging threats in support of the BD and infectious disease program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of related experience or a master's degree and 3+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility.
  • Ability to independently read, understand, and execute techniques, procedures, and plans to meet quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • ACTIVE SECRET security clearance is preferred.
  • Ph.D. strongly preferred.
  • Specialized skills in aerobiology, clinical pathology, electron or confocal microscopy, histopathology, quality assurance, and good laboratory practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, development, execution and evaluation of high-throughput screening projects for antibacterial, anti-viral, and anti-toxin therapeutic areas.
  • Assist in the development of novel assays/methods for various programs, including basic cell culture.
  • Perform both in vitro and in vivo microbiological experiments designed to evaluate therapeutic compounds for antibacterial/antiviral/antitoxin activity.
  • Conduct in vitro assays including enzymatic assays, cell-based phenotypic and reporter assays, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and plaque assays.
  • Support mouse studies when required, including inoculations of animals and collecting specimens for processing.
  • Develop and conduct immunological procedures including Enzyme Linked immunoassay (ELISA), Western blot, and Mesoscale Discovery based assays.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, standard operating procedures, and manuscripts relating to research efforts.
  • Present research findings at 1-2 scientific conferences per year as needed, with CONUS travel required.
  • Assess and maintain laboratory supplies in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories.
  • Ensure that all assigned laboratory space is orderly and compliant with all regulatory guidance.
  • Perform operations and training in animal manipulations and support animal studies for funded projects.
  • Provide the TPOC a Research Technical Report NLT the last day of each month.
  • Communicate unexpected experimental data/results and assist in troubleshooting or root cause analysis.
  • Maintain an orderly laboratory environment in compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate ordering of supplies with division staff and assist in training new personnel.
