Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Telcoms Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Oakland, CA.

  • Configure and test network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls) and radio communications hardware (base stations, antennas, DAS).
  • Configure network protocols (IP addressing, routing protocols) and radio protocols (LMR and wideband).
  • Perform and be accountable for verification and validation activities starting in the factory until system hand over.
  • Perform site surveys on railroad property to lay out basic equipment.
  • Supervise installations of Fiber Optic Cabling Systems and data communications systems.
  • Test Network, radio and fiber systems.
  • Troubleshoot network and radio equipment, conduct network performance tests, identifying, and resolving any connectivity issues or radio signal interference.
  • Create checklists and reports including system configuration, test results and any identified issues.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with medium/complex networks and in radio deployment.
  • Working Knowledge of network design patterns, constraints and protocols (networking certification preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Switching and Routing protocols.
  • Working knowledge of wireless communications in demanding scenarios.
  • Excellent ability to use test equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and a spectrum analyzer.
  • Working knowledge of Test and commissioning processes.
  • Skilled in handling electric, electronic, and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to communicate complex technical information.
  • System integration, ensuring seamless integration between the network and radio systems, including synchronization and interoperability.
  • Radio Frequency/Telecommunications Qualifications/University Degree.
  • From 2 to 5 years of Railway System Engineering and Commissioning expertise.
