Position Summary The Senior Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and technical oversight of telecommunications systems and infrastructure. This role supports complex projects, mentors junior staff, and ensures that engineering deliverables meet industry standards, customer requirements, and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in telecommunications engineering or network infrastructure design.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic design standards, outside plant design, structured cabling standards.
  • Proficiency with engineering and design tools (AutoCAD, GIS platforms, OSP design tools, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership qualities and desire to mentor and share your expertise.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as BICSI RCDD, PE licensure, FOA, or similar.
  • Experience working with utility providers, municipalities, or large-scale commercial clients.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer telecommunications systems including fiber optic networks, copper outside plant systems, structured cabling, wireless solutions, and related infrastructure.
  • Develop detailed engineering documents such as construction drawings, splicing plans, BOMs, technical specifications, and test documentation.
  • Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, network assessments, and system evaluations to determine optimal solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout project lifecycle-planning, design, installation support, testing, and closeout.
  • Collaborate with project managers, field crews, clients, and vendors to ensure technical accuracy and timely project execution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network, cabling, or system issues.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (NEC, BICSI, TIA/EIA, local codes) and Cannon Companies' quality and safety requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers, designers, and technicians; support training initiatives.
  • Review engineering documentation for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Support RFP responses, cost estimates, and technical proposals as needed.
