Who We’re Looking For Toyota’s Technician Development and Tools (TDT) Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Research and Development Technician. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or academic field, or equivalent work experience (4+ years) that provides a strong foundation in vehicle systems and technology
  • Experience using data acquisition equipment to capture and analyze critical performance metrics
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot vehicle systems remotely via phone or video conference
  • Hands-on experience updating vehicle systems software and verifying functionality
  • Skilled in interpreting electrical systems drawings, specifications, manuals, and wire diagrams
  • Proficiency with OBD (On Board Diagnostic) and CAN (Controller Area Network) tools for system diagnostics
  • Expertise in using hand and shop tools to build test fixtures and assemble/disassemble vehicles
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel (30–50%)
  • Ability to work independently or lead a team, demonstrating initiative and collaboration

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree that deepens your expertise in vehicle dynamics or related fields
  • Extra years of experience that give you a broader perspective on vehicle evaluation and testing
  • Specialized skills such as ASE certification, Toyota Driving Certifications, or experience writing software scripts to automate evaluations
  • Vehicle dynamics evaluation experience that sets you apart as a subject matter expert

Responsibilities

  • Own the maintenance and safety of IVS test vehicles and facilities, ensuring seamless operations
  • Retrofit and optimize ADS/ADAS sensors, data acquisition systems, and specialized equipment for maximum performance
  • Lead and execute public road and closed course evaluations, delivering actionable insights on ADAS/ADS system performance
  • Analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions that drive continuous improvement
  • Foster a culture of safety and teamwork, supporting the Automated Technician Group and collaborating across departments
