About The Position

We are seeking a highly technical and effective Technical Writer (hardware) to join the Technical Communications group. This is a group in R D, specializing in creating high quality, technically accurate documentation, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience for end users. This is a nonexempt temporary contract position for up to 12 months. The role offers a unique opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of our products while working in close collaboration with product development engineers, support & service teams, and field service engineers. This individual must be a self-starter, quick learner and detail oriented, work well in a team atmosphere, have good communication skills with the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced and multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering sciences, bioengineering, technical/scientific communications, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years technical writing experience in hardware, biotechnology-related hardware, or medical device/instrument environment, including documentation for a highly technical audience like engineers and scientists.
  • Understanding of fundamental engineering, mechanical, and electrical concepts in instruments/devices required.
  • Analytical ability to grasp and effectively communicate complex and in-depth scientific and engineering concepts.
  • A passion for learning about innovations in science and technology is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deliverables and feedback for multiple projects under tight deadlines, set priorities, and manage time effectively.
  • A fast learner with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly proficient in English with excellent grammar and editorial skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expert skill level using current versions of standard authoring tools, including MadCap Flare and Adobe InDesign.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or equivalent is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understand and acquire product-specific information from subject matter experts and draft detailed instrument-related documents, including service and maintenance documents, using MadCap Flare and Adobe InDesign.
  • Collaborate with technical illustrators to help develop documentation visuals.
  • Own document creation from inception to completion, including revisions.
  • Process and release final documents using a documentation change control system.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, style guides, and quality documents.
  • Contribute towards defining better processes and infrastructure for efficient content generation.
