About The Position

This Opportunity WSP USA is currently initiating a search for an Senior Technical Manager, Civil Engineering to join and grow our Mid-Atlantic South District civil team. This position will be located in the Herndon, Virginia office. Provides technical and project leadership to ensure civil engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and company standards for design, safety, and functionality. Responsible for ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal engineering, construction, and safety regulations, and providing pragmatic direction to address current and future challenges in a rapidly changing and complex business climate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices.
  • Advanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources.
  • Advanced proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables.
  • Experience with VDOT and Northern Virginia counties/localities standards and projects.
  • Experience with FHWA Eastern Federal Lands and/or National Park Service standards and projects.
  • Experience with Alternative Delivery projects (design-build, P3, CM/GC).
  • Familiarity with MS Project, Primavera or similar scheduling software.
  • Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive and strategic leadership as a senior member of the Herndon civil team.
  • Perform engineering review of engineering design plans and specifications, estimates, reports and other deliverables.
  • Lead civil engineering projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when.
  • Assistance with and/or leading the pursuit and development of business and the successful execution of work for current and potential infrastructure projects.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Support the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of civil engineering work for WSP in the region.
  • Responsible for the profitable performance of individual projects and the successful completion of the projects.
  • Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs.
  • Schedule engineering discipline meetings, providing updates and recommendations.
  • Serve as one of the civil team's representatives/liaison to a variety of external entities.
  • Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics.
  • Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents.
  • Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
  • Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
