About The Position

Nintendo of America Inc. is seeking a Senior Technical Localization Specialist (Japanese Bilingual) to join our team. This role involves providing accurate interpretations and translations of technical documents, online content, and business correspondence, while ensuring the cultural context and style of the source message are maintained. The position requires collaboration with document authors and engineers to drive improvement initiatives and propose best practices for localized content. The Specialist will also mentor team members and maintain best-practice documentation.

Requirements

  • Five (5) plus years related experience.
  • Two (2) plus years of professional and/or interpreting experience preferred.
  • Interpreting and translation expertise in programming concepts, manufacturing, quality control, consumer service support, information technology, and legal matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal fluency in English and Japanese required.
  • Experience using CAT tools, machine translation, termbases, and document publishing software including Microsoft Office and Adobe products preferred.
  • Solid understanding of tagged file formats such as XML/HTML.
  • Understanding of high-level programming languages and concepts.
  • Ability to translate technical programming and hardware manufacturing documentation.
  • Simultaneous interpreting experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly-confidential environment with fluctuating priorities.
  • Undergraduate degree in Linguistics, Business, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Master's degree in Translation and Interpretation preferred.
  • Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 certification or equivalent capability.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform consecutive interpreting for informal to highly formal discourse remotely and in person.
  • Verbally convey the meaning of the source language, reflecting the style, register, and cultural context without omissions.
  • Provide summarization of the source language over a chat application in real time.
  • Support interpretation and translation needs at off-site meetings and outside of standard business hours as required.
  • Translate and review technical documents, online content, and business correspondence.
  • Monitor daily communication posted to intra-company online systems and translate relevant content.
  • Proof and assess the quality of translation work, providing feedback to maintain quality.
  • Collaborate with document authors and engineers to identify issues and recommend process improvements.
  • Propose best practices regarding localized content based on understanding of Japanese/US localization issues.
  • Utilize CAT tools, machine translation, and termbases to translate and format content.
  • Lead internal team development initiatives and mentor team members in interpreting skills.
  • Proof, review, and edit material prepared by other employees and contractors.
  • Create and maintain best-practice instructions, reference documentation, and guidelines.
