About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Director, Bridge/Structural Engineer for our Portland, OR office. The following locations will also be considered: Vancouver, WA. Be involved in projects with our Pacific Mountain West Structures Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. Provide regional and/or multi-sector leadership as a Oregon and Southwest Washington Transportation Structures Lead to ensure structural engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, transportation infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and company standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality. Responsible for SME innovation and administration, ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal engineering, construction, and safety regulations, and providing pragmatic direction to address current and future challenges in a rapidly-changing and complex business climate. This role focuses on leading the structures practice for bridges and other structures work within Oregon and coordinating with out of state work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, structural/civil and infrastructure design.
  • Oregon Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency with structural engineering principles, practices, process, design requirements, alternative delivery, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Extensive advanced proficiency with building and infrastructure design.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with office automation and discipline-specific design software.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering.
  • ODOT and Oregon Local Programs experience and knowledge of the Oregon and Southwest Washington market.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of bridge or other structural engineering project work and program involvement within the organization.
  • Lead the most complex and largest scale bridge or other structural engineering projects within the engineering discipline.
  • Prepare and oversee relevant project budgets, monitor internal and external events, track hours and expenses, ensure satisfactory performance and profitability, and supervise subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Responsible for the pursuit and development of business specific to the structures practice and in collaboration with the highway and civil engineering practices.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Drive the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Structural Engineering work for WSP in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Accountable for the profitable performance of the individual projects and the successful completion of the projects within the specified area.
  • Drive compliance and accountability-at-all-levels with applicable Federal, State, and Local engineering/design/construction laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee internal vision and mission for the engineering discipline, ensuring alignment with business operations strategy.
  • Lead engineering discipline meetings and continuing educational opportunities for area of responsibility.
  • Serve as the engineering discipline's representative/liaison to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.
  • Provide senior leadership for proposals and project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics for the engineering discipline.
  • Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
  • Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for providing high level structural engineering services.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
