The role involves the overall management of a laboratory, including personnel, safety policies, and the management of facilities and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing safety policies for employees and laboratory guests, guiding laboratory technicians, and ensuring the proper maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment. Additionally, the role includes managing the laboratory budget and conducting quality control testing and recertification of products as necessary. The position also requires project management skills, as the candidate will review and approve laboratory project requests from various stakeholders, prioritize projects, and manage timelines. The role includes technical sales responsibilities, where the candidate will participate in sales calls and provide technical support to sales representatives and marketing managers.

  • Manage and execute safety policy for employees and laboratory guests.
  • Assign, direct, and guide laboratory technicians.
  • Manage proper maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment.

  • Conduct quality control testing and recertification on products as necessary.
  • Review and approve laboratory project requests from sales, principals, and marketing managers.

  • Assign laboratory projects to laboratory technicians.
  • Set laboratory project timelines using the Lab Project Log Form.
  • Evaluate laboratory project results of laboratory technicians.
  • Produce documents to communicate lab results to internal and external audiences.
  • Track financial impact of projects using the Lab Project Log Form.
  • Participate in joint sales calls or conference calls with sales representatives as needed.
  • Conduct principal visits and conference calls to present lab project findings and recommendations as needed.
  • Provide technical consultation on short technical issues not warranting a project request.
  • Bachelor's degree in a science-based field from a four-year college or university, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Preferred 1 to 5 years of experience in formulation and laboratory work.
  • Entry-level candidates with science-based degrees and laboratory experience will be considered.
