Position Overview The Senior Tech Lead, Workday is the enterprise’s technical authority for all integrations and architectural patterns for Workday. This senior individual contributor owns the integration landscape, end-to-end-design, build, patterns, governance, modernizations, and technical roadmap. In addition, the role serves as a trusted architect and hands-on technologist across all Workday domains (HCM and Finance), helping shape scalable, resilient, AI-enabled business processes across the People & Culture and Finance technology ecosystem. This role combines deep Workday integration expertise, modern API engineering skills, architectural thinking, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing next-generation integration patterns as they are rolling up their sleeves to build or troubleshoot critical interfaces.

  • Integration Architecture & Ownership Serve as Zelis’ technical authority for all Workday integrations across HCM and Finance domains.
  • Design and govern end-to-end integration patterns using Workday Studio, Core Connectors, EIB, and Workday REST/SOAP APIs.
  • Architect integrations using Azure API Management, SFTP, custom APIs, and influence the evaluation and adoption of other integration middleware.
  • Define reusable patterns, reference architectures, and technical standards for how Workday interfaces with the broader enterprise ecosystem. E.g. Snowflake, Salesforce, AWS.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of Workday’s integration capabilities, upcoming platform changes, and release cycles.
  • Hands-On Engineering & Technical Expertise Develop, configure, and troubleshoot complex integrations in Workday Studio and related frameworks.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for integration incidents, ensuring permanent fixes and architectural hardening.
  • Mentor Workday analysts and partner engineers on best practices for API usage, error handling, and data transformation.
  • Champion security-by-design principles, including tokenization, encryption, and identity-centered patterns.
  • Workday Domain Architecture Leadership Support all Workday domains at an architectural level, with ability to advise on data models, cross-domain dependencies, configuration approaches, and extensibility.
  • Act as a technical partner to HR Tech and Finance Tech product owners to ensure coherence between business and platform design.
  • AI, Automation & Modernization Lead adoption of AI and predictive automation within the Workday integration landscape.
  • Implement AI-enabled monitoring or copilots to detect anomalies, data breaks, and integration failures early.
  • Partner with HR/Finance stakeholders to identify opportunities to streamline business workflows using Workday Extend or AI/LLM-driven patterns.
  • Advocate for continuous modernization of Workday processes and integrations.
  • Cross-Platform & Vendor Ecosystem Influence Provide architectural input on how Workday should integrate with other HR/Finance platforms (e.g., recruiting systems, payroll vendors, procurement or expense tools, case management).
  • Influence platform selection, integration design, and data flow considerations for new systems entering the HR/Finance stack.
  • Governance, Roadmap & Stakeholder Leadership Own the Workday integration roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, InfoSec, and HR/Finance strategies.
  • Represent Workday technology in cross-functional design reviews and incident escalations.
  • Collaborate proactively with security, data/analytics, and enterprise architecture teams to ensure alignment on integration standards and data flows.
  • 5+ years of Workday technical experience with deep expertise in Workday integrations (Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, PECI/CIC).
  • Proven track record serving as a hands-on integration architect or lead technologist.
  • Strong experience building integrations using APIs, Azure APIM, SFTP, and custom interface frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to create reference architectures, solution designs, sequences, and integration patterns.
  • Strong understanding of Workday security, business processes, data models, and domain structures across both HCM and Finance.
  • Experience supporting full lifecycle Workday implementations, upgrades, and major integration transformations.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously as a senior IC while influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Zelis’ full-time associates are eligible for a highly competitive benefits package as well, which demonstrates our commitment to our employees’ health, well-being, and financial protection.
  • The US-based benefits include a 401k plan with employer match, flexible paid time off, holidays, parental leaves, life and disability insurance, and health benefits including medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
