About the position

The Senior Teacher plans, prepares and implements daily routines and activities that promote physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of young children in their assigned classroom. Plans are documented on dated weekly lesson plans that are submitted to the Curriculum Coach weekly. The Senior Teacher also maintains essential communication with the families of the children in their care according to center policy and procedure. The Senior Teacher directs the daily workflow of classroom staff assigned to the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality about issues regarding staff, children and families at St. Joseph Children's Home.
  • Completes an annual self-assessment using the ITERS/ECERS and sets achievable goals for the year based on the results.
  • Ensures all children are within sight and sound supervision at all times.
  • Checks photo ID of adults picking up children and ensures they are on the list of approved escorts.
  • Completes Name-to-Face attendance checks multiple times daily.
  • Prepares and maintains a clean and educationally stimulating classroom environment.
  • Maintains weekly lesson plans detailing activities and early childhood standards.
  • Plans and implements developmentally appropriate, play-based activities.
  • Limits screen time in the classroom to preapproved curriculum-related use.
  • Engages in age-appropriate play with children.
  • Provides positive guidance and direction for each child.
  • Follows behavior plans for individual children.
  • Reports behavior and development concerns to the Behavior and Development Coach.
  • Shares individual results of the ASQ with each child's family.
  • Greets children and families upon arrival and departure.
  • Communicates with parents regarding a child's development and well-being.
  • Completes incident reports for any illness, injury, or incident.
  • Keeps the Team Leader informed of any problems concerning children, staff, or families.
  • Maintains assigned classroom consistent with the vision for a unified, clean environment.
  • Serves meals and snacks to children in compliance with guidelines.
  • Reports any urgent building maintenance or custodial upkeep to the Team Leader.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) REQUIRED.
  • CDA or higher REQUIRED.
  • 1 year of experience in a Type 1 early childhood education facility preferred.
