About The Position

The Senior Tax Record Specialist position at Oconee County is designed to perform a variety of routine and complex clerical, technical, accounting, and legal support assignments in support of the Oconee Auditor's Office. The primary focus of this role is to assist in assessing taxes related to Real, Business, Personal Property, Manufacturing, Utilities, Aircraft, and Vehicles while ensuring compliance with applicable South Carolina statutes. This position also emphasizes the importance of providing excellent customer service to both internal and external clients, as well as assisting with the daily operations of the department. In this role, the Senior Tax Record Specialist will be responsible for calculating, receiving, and posting various taxes, balancing receipts daily, preparing deposits, and processing refunds as appropriate. The specialist will also prepare and submit state reimbursements for homestead and manufacturing to the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SC DOR) and assist local school districts and municipalities with their annual budgets and statutory requirements. Researching tax files through various county departments and databases, including multiple county and state software systems, legal records, and internet sources, will be a critical part of the job. The position requires a professional and courteous approach to customer service, addressing inquiries related to tax payments, delinquent taxes, and various exemptions. The specialist will also handle administrative tasks such as extensive filing, mail processing, and general office upkeep. Preparing tax records for the annual tax roll, processing deeds and assignments, and assisting customers with tax sales and Forfeited Land Commission matters are also key responsibilities. The role involves creating databases, spreadsheets, and forms to assist in record research, as well as preparing written correspondences for citizens regarding tax-related inquiries. Overall, the Senior Tax Record Specialist will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of tax record management and customer service within the Oconee Auditor's Office, contributing to the smooth operation of the department and compliance with state regulations.
