About The Position

The Senior Tax Analyst (Senior Finance Analyst) - International is a key member of the Tax team, responsible for leading the international tax function for Mayo Clinic and its related entities. This position reports to the Tax Manager and collaborates closely with the Tax Director, Tax Manager, and other members of the Tax team. This role involves working with Mayo personnel across all three shields and all locations, including Legal, Accounting, Human Resources, and Payroll, in a collaborative environment. Additionally, the Senior Tax Analyst will work with outside professionals located in the countries where Mayo conducts business. The primary responsibility is to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations, providing insight and guidance on various tax matters. This is the fourth in a series of four finance analyst roles in a multi-site, multi-specialty academic medical center. Assures the integrity of financial and statistical data, via preparation or review of general ledger entries, reports, schedules, worksheets, reconciliations or other analysis. Provides leadership in a team environment supporting complex, ambiguous and highly visible multidisciplinary activities or projects. Actively communicates and presents information to various audiences. Uses reporting tools to develop unique management financial information with significant institutional impact. Is recognized and relied upon as a subject matter expert who can recognize problems, formulate solutions and implement change in a finance, accounting or compliance technical area. Develops, implements, and maintains programs and tools for financial reporting for complex activities. Interprets and implements accounting rules, fiscal compliance, policies and regulations. Proactively identifies opportunities and recommends options for increasing financial margins, while preserving Mayo standards and minimizing the financial and legal risks to Mayo. Develops variable-sensitive business models and/or compliance or fiscal management tools. Provides expert analytical, financial, accounting, and compliance support to department and institutional leadership. Mentors, coaches, and trains staff. Spearheads change and actively participates in decision-making. Leads and facilitates institutional workgroups or complex projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of eight years applicable experience in accounting or finance if degree is in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of twelve years of applicable accounting or finance experience for other business related bachelor's degrees.
  • Master's degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance with six years of applicable experience in accounting or finance required.
  • Expert understanding of accounting and finance practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Expert investigational skills, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Solid customer-service skills; anticipates, understands and addresses customer needs in a timely manner.
  • Advanced knowledge of large accounting and/or grant management systems.
  • Ability to work and lead in a team environment and develop constructive working relationships with others.
  • Demonstrable communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead complex projects and activities.
  • Possess initiative, analytical skills, and an ability to operate with a high level of productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide data gathering, return preparation, and review of forms created by others and filed with the IRS for US Foreign Activity Filings.
  • Gather data for return preparation and review of foreign corporate tax returns and estimated tax payments to foreign governments.
  • Review for tax collected at source (TCS) and tax deducted at source (TDS) for monthly or quarterly filings for Foreign Offices.
  • Review, approve, and submit payment and returns, and/or monitor compliance of value-added tax (VAT).
  • Monitor, review, and advise on transfer pricing rules, arm's-length markups, and reporting requirements.
  • Examine and advise on contract language, determine potential tax withholding, and complete and file treaty benefit applications.
  • Work with outside tax consultants to obtain quotes and approval for work to be performed to meet tax compliance in foreign countries.
  • Participate in the review of expansion and acquisitions to determine tax consequences and advise on strategies that provide optimal tax.
