About The Position

The Boeing Global Services (BGS) Engineering team is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in Long Beach, California. This role involves creating and implementing innovative technologies to advance aerospace, providing engineering design and support, including aftermarket modifications, and enhancing product and services safety. The ideal candidate will be innovative, enthusiastic, highly collaborative, curious, and passionate about design architecture details. This engineer will support C-17 airplane programs in services and modernization, focusing on airworthiness assignments for new design changes. The team's broad work statement offers opportunities to perform airworthiness at the component, system, and airplane level across various functional disciplines like Avionics, Mechanical, Environmental, Electrical, and Propulsion. The role requires evaluating system architectures to determine the consequences of design changes for airworthiness processes and collaborating with Design Engineers to provide necessary artifacts/data to meet regulations. A strong engineering background with a solid understanding of certification processes is essential. The position contributes to the continued safe operation of C-17 fleets, emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, components, and loadable/non-loadable software.
  • Skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
  • Knowledge of verification, validation, certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Requirements management experience
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 9+ years of related work experience
  • Experience in Systems Engineering
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of experience with commercial or military airplane certification, and procedures
  • Familiarity with airworthiness methodology and criteria, MIL-STD 516C preferred.
  • Experience with requirements management

Responsibilities

  • Assess project plans for airworthiness impacts.
  • Review and assessment project development and test artifacts for applicability to, and substantiation of, airworthiness criteria.
  • Work with internal and customer teams for airworthiness criteria applicability and compliance.
  • Create and submit airworthiness compliance packages.
  • Apply Systems Engineering principles, tools, and techniques to the Design, Technical Documents, Testing, and Certification of aircraft.
  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
  • Ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
