Raytheon Vision Systems (RVS) Systems Integration and Test Department is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer with a background in airborne and space electro‑optical and infrared (EO/IR) surveillance and targeting sensor systems. In this role, the Systems Engineer plans and manages multidisciplinary and cross‑functional engineering activities and associated budgets, oversees engineering follow‑through of work products and support efforts, and contributes to proposal development and change‑management activities. This position also supports the bid manager on engineering‑related proposal content. The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test Department leads electro‑optic imaging systems definition, architecture, integration, product verification and validation, and the technical implementation of programs and projects to established cost and schedule objectives. This is an onsite role in Goleta, CA.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with EO/IR systems in the design, analysis, development, troubleshooting, and testing of electrical and/or optical subsystems, including EO or IR technology.
  • Support for the development of product specifications and requirements management, including distilling and deriving requirements for lower‑level subassemblies and components.
  • Involvement in system design, trade studies, optimization, and performance assessment.
  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, or Immigration Status Requirements: The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Security Clearance Type: DoD Clearance: Secret
  • Security Clearance Status: Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Participation in reviews associated with formal gating events and testing
  • Factory production and direct experience with IR FPA design and testing for tactical and/or space environments
  • Work with vacuum packaging, dewar design, cryogenic cooling, and/or opto‑mechanics
  • Requirements Organization via DOORs
  • Experience creating analytical models and scripting for data analysis (MATLAB preferred)
  • Plan, lead, and execute root‑cause and corrective‑action (RCCA)
  • ROIC wafer probing, fabrication, integration, verification, and validation for a complex EO/IR system.
  • Earned Value Management, EVMS Certification

Responsibilities

  • You will work with the Program Chief Engineer (PCE), Lead Systems Engineer (LSE), and Integrated Program Team Lead (IPTL) to ensure products are developed and delivered within the allotted cost, schedule, technical quality and performance parameters
  • You will support RVS EO/IR focal plane array (FPA) programs through activities such as requirements management, authoring performance specifications, defining verification plans, and performing data analysis.
  • Contribute to risk and opportunity management with the IPTL, LSE, and PCE to support proactive program execution.
  • Provide engineering inputs for proposals and present bid summaries to management.
  • Provide technical support for production and development activities.
  • Contribute to trade studies and present results to stakeholders.
  • Present technical findings and solutions to leadership and customers.
  • Identify and resolve hardware, software, and system issues through detailed data analysis and debugging.
  • Update, develop, maintain, and improve requirements, concepts of operations, and system interface definitions.
