Senior Systems Engineer

SirenOptSan Leandro, CA
8d$110,000 - $140,000

About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to help develop, test, and validate SirenOpt’s plasma-based sensing platform for integration into advanced manufacturing environments. As an early-stage member of the SirenOpt team, you will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on next-generation material characterization technologies while helping build a strong technical foundation for a growing company. The ideal candidate learns new concepts quickly and produces high-quality technical work with strong attention to documentation. You will apply sound engineering judgment to solve a wide range of technical challenges efficiently and creatively, often spanning multiple disciplines. A core part of this role is planning and executing experiments, analyzing results, and maintaining thorough documentation. Some problems may fall outside your core areas of expertise, making technical curiosity, hands-on experimentation, and a self-starting mindset critical for success. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge systems in a collaborative and dynamic environment. If you are a driven and skilled engineer who enjoys hands-on system development, disciplined experimentation, and data-driven problem solving, we encourage you to apply.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering or Physics with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, M.S. with 2+ years, or Ph.D. with relevant hands-on experience
  • Experience developing automated metrology, inspection, or diagnostic systems through design, validation, deployment, and customer support phases
  • Experience designing and executing structured experiments, including multi-dimensional Design of Experiments (DoE)
  • Proficiency with tools such as Python, MATLAB, C, or similar for data analysis, modeling, and evaluation of system performance
  • Hands-on experience developing and testing prototypes, subsystems, and integrated systems
  • Experience working with suppliers or external partners in a technical support or collaboration capacity
  • Experience incorporating customer or application feedback into experimental studies and design iterations
  • Experience performing sensitivity analysis and using results to inform design improvements and mitigation strategies
  • Ability to adapt to new technical challenges and operate effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with metrology equipment and sensors used for characterization of advanced materials
  • Prior work or research experience in one or more of the key industrial markets that SirenOpt addresses, including batteries, semiconductors, power generation, energy, or electronics
  • Familiarity with high-voltage devices; exposure to plasma-based systems is a plus
  • Experience with capital equipment designed for integration into manufacturing environments, particularly roll-to-roll and piece-to-piece processes
  • Exposure to high-precision, high-throughput industrial systems for material handling, metrology, or process automation
  • Japanese language proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Support system-level design, integration, and validation of SirenOpt’s plasma-based sensing platform
  • Work with a small, cross-functional engineering team to research, develop, and validate new system concepts and experimental approaches
  • Plan and execute experiments to characterize system performance and sensitivity to environmental and operational factors
  • Analyze experimental data and maintain clear, well-organized documentation of experimental work and results
  • Contribute to technical design documentation, including requirements, specifications, test plans, schematics, and test reports
  • Incorporate customer and application feedback into experimental studies and system design iterations
  • Support on-site installation, testing, and validation of SirenOpt instruments at customer sites as needed
  • Domestic and international travel of approximately 5–10% may be required.
