About The Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is looking for an Senior Systems Engineer to support projects at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an opportunity for Senior Systems Engineers to join our Seabrook, MD team. You will work on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Landsat Mission Operations (LMO) program which includes development of a multi-mission environment and Mission Operations support for both Landsat-8 and Landsat-9 spacecraft. As an Advanced Systems Engineer you will have an opportunity to contribute to the world’s longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data used for strategic land management. The Advanced Systems Engineer will possess knowledge and experience across one or more relevant functional areas: Systems Engineering

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required

Nice To Haves

  • Agile experience preferred.
  • Two to five years of relevant experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Landsat Multi-satellite Operations Center (LMOC) requirements management
  • Perform LMOC interface definition and verification
  • Perform LMOC design and performance verification
  • Perform LMOC engineering analysis
  • Perform test evaluation toward the delivery of the LMOC Mission and Quality Assurance
  • Perform software management and software quality activities during the development and delivery of the Mission Operations Centers (MOCs)
  • Support MOC releases by performing design, development, integration, test and delivery activities of the systems
  • Support integration of the MOC systems into the MOC facilities
  • Provide development support through launch, commissioning, and mission transition to operations
  • Perform MOC infrastructure support activities
  • Provide MOC ground systems operations engineering experience in support of all Landsat-9 mission operations readiness activities.
  • Supporting major MOC and ground systems reviews
  • Support MOC system I&T
  • Obtain MOC systems experience through technical interchange with the MOC developers
  • Train Flight Operations Team members
  • Prepare operations plans and procedures for ground system operations
  • Participates in Ground Readiness Tests (GRTs), Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), operations tests, and other pre-launch tests, simulations, and rehearsals
  • Provide ground system contribution to all Contract Data Requirement Lists, reviews, and reports
  • Support Landsat-9 operations from launch through the mission transition to normal operations
  • Provide overall flight systems operations engineering
  • Perform spacecraft and instrument sustaining engineering, performance monitoring, assessment, and contingency support
  • Perform L8 real-time operations activities including, but not limited to, command and control, telemetry monitoring and analysis, anomaly detection, isolation, and recovery
