AnaVation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our Cross Domain Engineering Team supporting mission-critical programs within the federal government. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in systems design, network infrastructure, and cloud automation—combining hands-on technical proficiency with strategic leadership. This role involves architecting, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and highly available systems across multiple environments, including AWS and on-premises platforms, to enable critical data exchange and operational continuity across domains.

  • Architect, develop and support a highly available resource utilized FBI-wide for mission-critical programs composed of numerous AWS services and on-premises servers across multiple locations.
  • Automate the creation and management of AWS resources using AWS CloudFormation, AWS Lambda, GitLab, BASH, and Python scripting.
  • Design and implement an automated, hands-free monthly server rebuild and switchover process leveraging CloudFormation, Lambda, and EventBridge.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive system of scripts and processes to automate configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of UNIX systems supporting essential FBI services.
  • Maintain network hardware and server infrastructure, including analysis, configuration, installation, and testing of new hardware and software.
  • Support daily network operations, evaluating utilization, monitoring response times, and detecting and resolving operational problems.
  • Troubleshoot issues at both the physical and logical levels of the network, using diagnostic tools and communication protocol analysis.
  • Participate in planning, design, technical reviews, and implementation of network and infrastructure projects supporting voice and data communications.
  • Maintain and enhance network infrastructure standards, including TCP/IP communication protocols, and ensure adherence to industry and security best practices.
  • Exhibit proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMware, AWS, etc.) and network administration, ensuring high system availability and scalability.
  • Provide technical consultation, mentorship, and training to IT personnel designated by the government.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and communication problems affecting production systems.
  • Manage patching, certification, and accreditation tasks, ensuring compliance with approved baselines and government standards.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quick Reference Guides to support continuity and knowledge transfer.
  • Serve as a technical advisor for system and database design, development, and procurement, recommending solutions for performance, security, and scalability.
  • Set and maintain standards for client/server database architecture, ensuring consistent implementation across enterprise environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
  • 7–9 years of documented experience in Information Systems Engineering, including hardware and network designs for large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Implementing and maintaining security best practices, creating and maintaining documentation for architecture, configuration and processes.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining monitoring and alerting systems for cloud and on premise resources.
  • Optimizing on premise and cloud infrastructure for cost efficiency and performance.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to performance and availability.
  • Documented and demonstrated experience with troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Experience scripting and programming for automation.
  • Experience monitoring large enterprise production applications.
  • Experience troubleshooting production applications.
  • Experience with performance tuning and fault finding.
  • Experience in design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
  • Documented and demonstrated experience as an individual consultant or a team lead.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or supporting Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) within secure, multi-network environments.
  • Cloud certification.
  • Expertise with Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages for infrastructure management.
  • Proficiency with AWS CloudFormation, Lambda, EventBridge, GitLab, and related automation pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Oracle SuperCluster, Solaris, and RHEL systems administration.
  • Experience in platform management, capacity planning, and performance tuning for mission-critical systems.
