About The Position

The Space and Mission Critical Systems group at Draper is seeking a motivated Systems Engineer to perform key systems modeling and engineering tasks in support of Draper’s Space Domain Awareness business area. Leveraging Draper’s expertise in spacecraft systems (for Earth orbit, lunar, and deep space applications), hypersonics, fault-tolerant avionics, autonomy, and/or guidance navigation and control (GN&C), the candidate will support the group’s mission in developing early stage concepts all the way through to fully-functional deployed solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or other relevant Engineering field
  • 5-7 years experience in systems analysis or related
  • Experience in use of MBSE tools such as SysML, knowledge in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience in integrating descriptive modeling tools with other simulation tools

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Certification or degree in Aerospace or Systems Engineering
  • Experience with STK, AFSIM, and other modeling tools
  • Experience with model based systems engineering (MBSE) and Catia using the MagicDraw SysML modeling tool (preferred), or other SysML modeling tools

Responsibilities

  • Developing systems concepts, requirements, and architectures
  • Predicting and analyzing mission performance and reliability
  • Use of Model Based Systems Engineering Tools
  • Conduct trade studies and technology demonstrations
  • Perform analysis approaches for a particular problem and independently execute assignments
  • Independently execute system engineering lifecycle assignments; concept and architecture design, integration, testing and operation
  • Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction
  • Contribute to task planning and test development, propose ways forward, and adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements
  • Lead small teams (fewer than five people) and align team towards program goals
  • Provide insight and suggest design modifications based on analysis outcomes
  • Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback
  • Work in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment including stakeholders and external partners
  • Contribute to translation of requirements into technical and architectural decisions
