About The Position

The Role The SaaS Collaboration Platforms (SCP) organization provides a broad set of technology products and services to GM Software & Services. Within SCP, the Self‑Service Automation Tools team manages the enterprise password management platform (1Password) and builds day‑two automation for systems administrators—covering patching, release management, application restarts, password rotations, and other intricate orchestrations. The Self‑Service Automation Tools team has established a strong portfolio of capabilities that have transformed IT—and we’re just getting started. We’re looking for an engaged, high‑energy engineer with a broad toolset and modern development experience to help carry the team forward toward GM’s vision. You will be a key owner of GM’s enterprise credential management and automation capabilities, responsible for secure credential storage, best‑practice vault management, and driving adoption across the enterprise. You’ll help manage and integrate the 1Password SaaS platform with GM systems, design automation workflows (including AI‑assisted experiences), and deliver self‑service capabilities that make IT more secure and efficient. You’ll also contribute to our security lifecycle by ensuring third‑party applications and operating systems align to GM’s IT Statement of Technical Direction. You’ll work with a team of dedicated engineers and help nurture a culture of integrity, innovation, forward‑thinking, accountability, and inclusivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with proficiency in Java and .NET.
  • Expertise building end‑to‑end applications on cloud platforms, with strong familiarity with Kubernetes and OpenShift.
  • In‑depth knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in full‑stack development and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with both relational and non‑relational databases; strong schema design skills.
  • Solid grounding in software engineering fundamentals: design patterns, data structures, algorithms.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication; ability to translate feedback and needs into solutions.
  • Creative problem‑solving delivering efficient solutions to complex issues.
  • Experience with IT Service Management tools (preferably ServiceNow) and integrating automation via orchestration tools.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems, manage incidents, and drive root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate across teams.
  • Active participation in planning, code reviews, and design discussions; ownership of technical projects end‑to‑end.
  • Strong teamwork focus and ability to foster collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands‑on experience with 1Password or other enterprise password management tools.
  • 7+ years in IT Security, Identity Management, or Systems Administration.
  • Front‑end/web: JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Angular, Node.js.
  • Back‑end: .NET Core/C#, Java/Spring Boot.
  • Databases: SQL, Postgres.
  • Cloud & platform: Kubernetes, OpenShift.
  • Build & pipelines: Maven, Git/GitHub, Artifactory; CI/CD pipelines.
  • Observability & data: Redis (distributed cache), ELK (logging/analytics).
  • API management experience.
  • ServiceNow Flow Designer integration experience.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with cloud‑based workload automation and hybrid environments.
  • Experience with Enterprise Security concepts, implementation, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain 1Password Enterprise accounts, vaults, roles, and policies.
  • Design & build secure, scalable microservices and user‑friendly front‑ends for self‑service automation (password management and rotations, patching, release management, app restart, automation workflows).
  • Integrate 1Password with identity providers to manage user provisioning/de‑provisioning.
  • Implement AI‑driven features and workflow automation to streamline 1Password and broader self‑service capabilities.
  • Lead architecture for large‑scale cloud software systems; set coding standards and best practices.
  • Monitor adoption and produce usage/impact reports for leadership; define and track KPIs.
  • Ensure reliability and high availability of system and self-service automation capabilities; proactively prevent/mitigate failures.
  • Operate with Tier 2/3 support responsibilities: on‑call, incident management, troubleshooting, root cause analysis.
  • Instrument & observe production systems (logging, metrics, tracing) and enforce operational excellence.
  • Collaborate across IT Security & Compliance, product, business, DevOps, and engineering teams.
  • Participate in Agile planning; maintain documentation for automation processes and environments.
  • Evaluate & recommend new tools/technologies to expand system capabilities and improve developer productivity.
  • Mentor junior engineers; provide technical leadership, code reviews, and guidance.
