About The Position

The Senior Systems Engineer at Blue Origin will play a crucial role in the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems for space vehicles. This position involves supporting various lifecycles of engine development, including requirements development, technical trade studies, risk management, and verification planning. The engineer will work collaboratively within a diverse team to ensure the successful integration and performance of liquid rocket engines, contributing to the mission of advancing human spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field.
  • 8+ years system development/integration experience with complex mechanical systems.
  • 5+ years experience working with liquid rocket engines.
  • Knowledge of current systems engineering and integration tools and methodologies in a safety-critical environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Demonstrated execution and coordination skills.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS, DNG, Jama, or similar.
  • Experience with Atlassian collaboration tools Jira and Confluence.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in reliability, maintainability, and supportability analysis and execution.
  • System Safety analysis experience including Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Functional Hazard Analysis.
  • Basic project management skills.
  • Demonstrated configuration management experience.
  • Experience with failure investigations.
  • Experience supporting proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and guide system design and development at all stages of the development lifecycle.
  • Develop, manage, and allocate requirements & interfaces and ensure requirements are accurately linked.
  • Lead systems engineering activities in accordance with system engineering standards and practices.
  • Manage, organize, and facilitate gated reviews.
  • Develop and mature Concept of Operations documents.
  • Coordinate consistent System Safety products for engines, ensuring comprehensive analysis by subsystem engineers.
  • Review verification records to ensure appropriate rigor.
  • Ensure all aspects of the system are working to the correct configuration including drawings and interface control documents.
  • Participate in specialty engineering integration, analysis, and verification.
  • Act as the negotiator between conflicting interests to optimize the system as a whole.
  • Create interface definition and design specification documents from engineering documentation.
  • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges.
  • Track, evaluate, and report on system metrics.
  • Lead engine level trade studies.
