About The Position

The Senior Systems Planner will play a key role in shaping the future of energyRe’s strong and growing portfolio of renewable energy, storage and transmission projects. This role requires a strong background in both transmission and economic planning studies, and strong knowledge of the various regional transmission organization (RTO/ISO) processes. The individual will work cross-functionally with development, engineering, and regulatory teams, while also representing the company in technical and stakeholder forums. This is a senior role requiring both technical leadership and strategic insight into transmission policy, planning frameworks, and market dynamics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering from ABET accredited university; other technical/science degrees (e.g., mathematics, physics) may be considered with appropriate experience.
  • Preferred focus on power systems analysis.
  • Advanced degree in engineering preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in transmission planning or system operations, with a focus on renewable integration.
  • Ability to manage the development and strategic process for energy projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-function team environment with strong prioritization, organizational, networking, leadership, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and confidence to identify questions which affect material market/project assumptions and raise these to the offshore development team members.
  • Ability to write effective, concise reports.
  • Position will require interfacing with senior managers within the organization.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, over several projects, at different stages of development.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, implementation, and oversight preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting presentation and communication skills.
  • Strong scheduling skills and ability.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard modeling tools (PSS®E, PSCAD, PSLF, TARA, PowerWorld, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of transmission reliability standards (NERC, FERC, regional entities).
  • Experience working with interconnection processes within RTOs/ISOs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead steady-state, dynamic, and short-circuit studies to evaluate grid impacts of renewable and storage interconnections.
  • Perform power system modeling using tools such as PSS®E, PSCAD, PowerWorld, TARA, or PSLF.
  • Assess transmission expansion needs, congestion impacts, and curtailment risks.
  • Monitor, analyze, and influence RTO/ISO transmission planning processes (e.g., PJM, MISO, CAISO, NYISO, ERCOT).
  • Provide insights into long-term grid reliability, renewable integration studies, and transmission policy changes.
  • Develop strategies to secure and optimize interconnection positions for company projects.
  • Partner with project development teams to identify viable sites considering grid capacity and system upgrade requirements.
  • Support regulatory and policy teams with technical input for filings, comments, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Mentor junior engineers and planners, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Represent the company in technical working groups, planning committees, and transmission-related stakeholder engagements.
  • Build strong relationships with utilities, transmission operators, and regulatory agencies.
