Senior System Integration Engineer, Vehicle Power Modes

Rivian and VW Group TechnologyPalo Alto, CA

About The Position

As a Senior System Integration Engineer for Vehicle Power Modes, you will play a significant role in shaping how our vehicles wake up, stay alert, and go to sleep across software and hardware teams. Working within the Rivian–VW Group joint venture, you will bridge the gap between high-level software logic and physical hardware, ensuring seamless power transitions across the most advanced zonal architectures in the industry. This is a high-impact role where you will define the "heartbeat" of the vehicle, directly influencing energy efficiency, startup latency, and overall system reliability.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in automotive embedded systems integration (or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience).
  • Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with CAN, LIN, and Ethernet communication protocols and analysis tools (e.g., CANoe, CANalyzer).
  • Hands-on experience with requirement management tools like Jama and issue-tracking software like Jira.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB/Simulink) for data analysis and automation.
  • Systems Mindset: Strong understanding of vehicle power distribution, UDS diagnostics, and embedded software lifecycles.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder dynamics within a global joint venture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Zonal Controller architectures and modern E/E systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 Functional Safety standards.
  • Previous experience working in a multi-company or international Joint Venture environment.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Design
  • Translate complex vehicle behaviors into technical software requirements, state machines, and sequence diagrams.
  • Define and maintain the future Vehicle Power Modes architecture, ensuring scalability across multiple vehicle platforms.
  • Orchestrate power-mode logic across Zonal Controllers, ensuring synchronization between low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) domains.
  • Cross-Functional Integration
  • Act as the central technical point of contact to align software baselines and features across diverse engineering domains.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure power-up/power-down sequences meet rigorous timing and safety targets.
  • Manage the integration of new features from initial concept through to production-ready firmware releases.
  • Validation & Root Cause Analysis
  • Lead deep-dive technical investigations into complex system-level issues identified on HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) benches, in the factory, or in the field.
  • Utilize CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet traces to perform "detective work" on unexpected power state transitions or energy drain.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive integration test plans to validate software releases against system requirements.

Benefits

  • Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26.
