About The Position

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. The Role This role is intended for a highly experienced engineer with strong expertise in braking systems and/or vehicle dynamics or related technologies. The Senior Systems Engineer will lead the decomposition and development of system requirements that enable the engineering of next‑generation braking architectures. You will drive system‑level design, requirements management, and cross‑functional alignment to ensure safe, high‑performance braking solutions for future vehicle platforms. The role requires deep technical knowledge to guide contributing teams in understanding the full end‑to‑end interactions of the brake system and to deliver complete, high‑quality requirements and work products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, IT, or Physics
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive braking systems or chassis feature development.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated capability in vehicle dynamics, braking control systems, and system engineering principles.
  • Strong understanding of FMEA methodology and requirements management tools
  • Experience with embedded controls
  • Experience with requirements management and simulation tools (e.g., DNG, MATLAB, carsim, INCA, CAN,)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering
  • Experience with ISO 26262 and functional safety practices
  • Familiarity with model-based development and simulation tools.
  • Prior experience in braking systems and embedded controls
  • Knowledge of ADAS or integrated braking systems
  • High degree of Managerial Courage and Comfort with Ambiguity

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of braking system requirements, ensuring alignment with vehicle-level performance, regulatory, customer needs, and safety requirements.
  • Lead and support technical development of system decomposition requirements for Future Braking Systems.
  • Work with Focused System Integrity Teams whose main goal is to develop requirements, define use cases and test cases, gain alignment of the prioritization, roll-out, and minimal viable product (MVP) definition for brake related systems aligned to program milestones
  • Define and manage decomposition of system requirements, interfaces, and functional specifications.
  • Supports scope definition and directs stakeholders to enable diagnostic performance monitoring capability development
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, controls and stakeholder teams to ensure seamless integration and validation throughout product development lifecycle.
  • Support FMEA, functional safety (ISO 26262) and system safety activities related to braking features and systems .
  • Understand and contribute to functional decomposition signal mapping and embedded controls development
  • Drive system-level testing, issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with safety, software, controls, design, validation, electrical and stakeholder teams to ensure requirements are met and risks are mitigated and achieve enterprise objectives and customer performance.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers in systems engineering practices.
  • Escalates and represents technical braking system issues in technical reviews and provide regular updates to leadership and stakeholders
  • Generate & Implement development plans that involve modeling, Software in the loop (SIL) , Hardware in the Loop (HIL) and vehicles
