About The Position

The Senior System Administrator Manager at the University of North Texas is responsible for overseeing the daily management of library infrastructure and servers. This role involves installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and operating system software, as well as analyzing systems and software to meet strategic computing goals. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and effective prioritization of projects and resource allocation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field and six years of related computing experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding leadership skills.
  • Experience in designing and developing integration solutions.
  • Knowledge of large-scale network, academic and/or administrative systems and associated hardware and software.
  • Ability to manage complex systems and technical professionals.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and manage complex installations, conversions, and implementations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with specific systems, equipment, and software as needed by department.
  • Familiarity with VMware and virtualization technologies.
  • Proficiency with Windows Server and Linux administration.
  • Ability to leverage scripting languages such as Powershell, BASH, and Python.
  • Experience automating tasks with Ansible or similar technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the daily functioning of the server/storage/software/computer network and all associated systems.
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain operating system servers and resolve complex problems.
  • Perform analysis of systems, hardware, and/or software to determine long-range and short-term courses of action.
  • Review the analysis of other staff and assimilate data for senior management.
  • Recommend methods to ensure all Library devices, servers, and related software are secured according to department and UNT policy.
  • Collaborate and provide oversight to Endpoint Administrator and Helpdesk to ensure server resources are available.
  • Manage and test data backup system and disaster recovery plans.
  • Investigate and implement new technology solutions to align with industry best practices for academic libraries.
