The practice of a Senior Surgical Physician Assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the surgical physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician. Medical services rendered may include, but are not limited to: obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting in surgical procedures; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. The Senior Surgical Physician Assistant, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available. The Senior Surgical Physician Assistant shall also be responsible for the training an mentoring of new surgical PA's, liaise between department staff, nursing units, referring physicians, and house staff. The Senior Surgical Physician Assistant shall also be responsible for organizing and conducting educational/training modules for PA's; organizing and coordinating PA schedules for the department as assigned. In addition to the Core Skills listed here, Surgical PA’s will request validation to perform department specific skills.
