Senior Surfacing Artist - Temp (SFD / Cinematics)
About The Position
Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a Senior Surfacing Artist for its Cinematics department. You have experience working with painting tools to achieve a range of stylized to photo-real surfaces as well as look development experience setting up shaders to achieve a variety of material properties. You are organized and creative, with the ability to solve problems efficiently. This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements. This is roughly a 6-month temporary position.
Requirements
- 8+ Years working in Animation/VFX/Games as a Surfacing Artist or Look Development
- 5+ Years experience working with Mari and/or Substance Painter
- 5+ Years experience working with Katana
- Experience working in production with Renderers like PRMan, Redshift, or similar
- A thorough understanding of Surfacing and Look Development workflows
- Efficient in industry standard texturing tools like Mari and Substance Painter
- Ability to provide feedback on how to improve the texture workflow
- Understand what the Show Lead needs in terms of asset creation and production support
Nice To Haves
- Practical knowledge of Houdini Solaris
- Knowledge and experience working in Unreal
- Other proficiencies that lean toward generalist skillsets are a strong consideration
Responsibilities
- Focus on surfacing assets in a collaborative production environment and entrusted with the more difficult assets in the pipeline
- Work through technical art production, modeling, texturing, rendering, and UV unwrapping workflows
- Work closely with the character team, technical artists, and the production team to determine surfacing needs and create textures based on those needs
