The Senior Supervisor position (Level 5) is a promotion defined by the roles and responsibilities of the Supervisor position (Level 6) but with greater responsibility for team leadership, performance management and administration. Individuals are selected for this role based on high-performance, high-potential and a willingness to lead and develop peers. They have direct oversight of daily operations to ensure the highest level of product delivery in accordance with Company guidelines, the United Leadership Model, and in the spirit of the core4 (safe, caring, dependable, efficient). Focus will be on coaching supervisors and frontline employees plus developing themselves as leaders. Recognized as experts in operational, administrative and technical areas of the operation. Note: This position will work 100% of the time at the Chicago O’Hare Airport with varying hours. This role will be required to travel up to 10% of the time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years’ experience in Supervisor (L6) position, proficient in scheduling, payroll and performance management systems to support frontline employees
  • Knowledge of Cargo Operations policies and procedures
  • Strong written and oral communication, conflict resolution and decision-making, proficient in appropriate work group and office productivity software (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Conflict resolution and decision making, with the ability to lead
  • Regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with United's policies is required
  • May require working weekends, holidays, and/or shift work
  • Travel requirement of 10%
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support the performance of a larger team, zone or cell
  • Develop and support continuous improvement processes and initiatives
  • Provide supervisors and frontline with regular coaching, feedback and recognition as appropriate
  • Provide technical guidance and interpret Company guidelines and procedures to support employees in functional tasks and to ensure that safety, security and service are delivered consistently
  • Mentoring supervisors and administrative employees
  • Act as backup for the operation when Manager is on vacation or out of station
  • Assist in tracking and analyzing departmental performance
  • Set expectations regarding performance standards for supervisors and frontline employees and gain their commitment in accordance with Company guidelines and union agreements (if applicable)
  • Lead performance dialogues with employees to review metrics, performance and issue resolution
  • Address inappropriate behavior and performance issues with coaching and specific feedback
  • Support investigations (as appropriate) into performance, safety, complaints and other work-related issues
  • Maintain regular and prompt communication to include attending local meetings, townhalls, RAP sessions, e-mail/voicemail follow-up, and incident reports
  • Seek cost-reduction opportunities and monitor controllable expenses
  • Manage projects
