About The Position

The Aircraft Integration Engineering and Certification group is responsible for designing and certifying retrofit installations on commercial transport and business jet aircraft for customers around the world. Our group works closely with program teams across Collins to secure new business opportunities and develop solutions that meet our customers’ challenging requirements. We achieve this through a structured and proven certification process, strategic roadmap, and embracing a spirit of collaboration to overcome challenges. The Aircraft Integration Engineering and Certification group is seeking a structural/mechanical project engineer responsible for designing and substantiating retrofit installations on commercial transport and business jet aircraft that are in compliance with all regulatory requirements (Domestic and International). This is a remote position.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (latest release) and/or Solidworks (latest release) in 2D/3D modeling.
  • Experience with structural/mechanical integration design aspects and substantiation of various avionics systems, aircraft interiors, lighting, monuments and seating
  • Aircraft static structural substantiation/analysis experience (hand calculation or software)
  • Familiarity and experience with aircraft manuals, such as Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC), Structural Repair Manual (SRM), etc.
  • Familiarity and experience with FAA 14CFR and FAA Advisory Circulars (AC).

Nice To Haves

  • Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license or comparable aviation technician experience
  • Kitting and Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA) process familiarity and experience
  • FAA STC process familiarity and experience

Responsibilities

  • Create new FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) design data packages, including mechanical integration design, substantiation and compliance data.
  • Customize follow-on STC data packages to a specific aircraft configuration.
  • Generation of engineering data described above, with respect to accuracy and detail, commensurate with experience level.
  • Perform on-site surveys, design reviews and installation support.
  • Provide technical support for projects during kitting and aircraft installation.
  • Identify and quantify impacts on project certification and schedule.
  • Review peer engineer’s data for accuracy and detail.
  • If required, manage a team of engineers for project completion.
  • Coordinate with project managers (PMs) to ensure project is completed as defined and on time.
