About The Position

Hybrid Telework Opportunity. The Senior Structural Engineer (SSE) will perform, but not limited to, preliminary, triage, normal, expedite, and over-the-counter reviews of submittal documents pertaining to the more difficult types of structural engineering work in the design and construction of healthcare facilities as required to ensure compliance with Title 24, California Code of Regulations (CCRs) (including all referenced codes and standards there within), the Office's Policy Intent Notices, Code Application Notices and other applicable codes, guidelines and policies, and other reference materials. Conducts field observations as directed. Maintains current certification with appropriate licensing board. This position is subject to the Form 700 Statement of Economic Interests filing requirements, which requires disclosure of certain personal economic interests as determined by the Conflict of Interest Code of the Department of Health Care Access and Information. Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within the last 10 years with California Building Standards Codes, Title 24 Building Codes and Regulations, and other California business practices, policies and interpretations for health facilities, hospitals.
  • Experience with concrete, steel, masonry and wood construction materials, and methods of construction.
  • Experience in evaluation and retrofitting of existing structures.
  • Structural engineering experience within the last 10 years in hospital design and Construction.
  • Structural engineering construction observation experience.
  • Experience working and resolving issues with a multi-disciplinary team, clients, contractors and other technical and professional staff.
  • Experience inspecting or reviewing quality of structural engineering work in office and/or field.
  • Experience performing technical evaluation of construction documents.
  • Maintain a current, comprehensive working knowledge of State business practices, codes, regulations, policies, interpretations, materials and methods of construction applicable to specific areas of enforcement.
  • Ability to apply technical skills to evaluate and formulate practical solutions in resolving structural engineering plan and field review issues.
  • Ability to handle code enforcement issues with architects, engineers, and health care facility owners.
  • Ability to handle stressful or sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to performing duties in a service-oriented manner.
  • Communicate well with others and handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Good writing and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Participation in the last 10 years in professional structural engineer organizations, technical committees, and continuing education seminars.
