About The Position

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to un-served and under-served communities around the world. The mission of Amazon Leo’s Government (ALG) team is to leverage existing Amazon Leo technology and provide high speed, low latency, and secure satellite broadband services to the United States and our allied government customers. ALG is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to perform quality work. This person must have experience working in spacecraft design, producing top notch structural analysis and providing essential input and recommendations to vehicle architects and subsystem leads. The Senior Structural Engineer will have a background in space based and ground based mechanical analysis and design. The ideal candidate has experience making major optimization trades for payloads and system architectures. This is a position that combines superb technical and analytical capabilities to convert analytic trade studies to a space qualified payload, while meeting cross discipline requirements. The candidate will focus on the specific needs of the customer and be able to conduct or direct the structural analyses to show solutions that will meet the customer’s goals.

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 6+ years experience with structural analysis tools (Femap, Nastran, Ansys, or Abaqus)

Nice To Haves

  • MS in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years with structural engineering and analysis of space based electro-mechanical systems and structures
  • Experience with dynamics analysis, dynamics testing (sine/random/shock), and model correlation to testing
  • 3+ years using NX CAD for model design and drawing creation
  • Experience creating detailed designs in CAD systems and drawings with appropriate GD&T

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis to support design trade studies for satellite payloads and structures, ground based communication equipment, and test support hardware
  • Contribute to overall system architectures including inputs and requirements from cross discipline teams - Electrical, RF, Optical, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test
  • Conduct structural analysis using finite element methods as needed to support design concepts and demonstrate that technical solutions will meet the customer’s needs and requirements
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and presentations for technical design reviews and proposal activities
