About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. The Team Amazon Web Services' Electrical Products and Services Engineering team has long driven innovation for the electrical systems that underpin our global data centers. As our product portfolio grows, we are expanding our scope to include the structural products and systems that are integral to our electrical infrastructure, ensuring that the physical frameworks supporting our electrical equipment meet the same standards of reliability, performance, and scalability. We are a collaborative, high-impact group focused on achieving industry-leading reliability through rigorous design standards, continuous improvement, and scalable remediation programs across the AWS fleet. Your Impact Design & Lead: Define and own the structural engineering strategy for next-generation electrical product designs, delivering resilient, cost-effective, and scalable structural solutions that support our global data center footprint. Own Full-Cycle Programs: Lead structural projects from concept through implementation, including structural analysis, product qualification, and design remediation, while managing scope, schedule, and budget across multiple concurrent programs. Set the Standard: Develop and drive adoption of structural engineering standards, specifications, and design guidelines that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency across the product portfolio. Consult and Advise: Serve as the internal structural engineering consultant for the team, providing expert guidance on lifting and rigging plans, product tie-down requirements for transport, and seismic analysis, including test planning, results interpretation, and recommendations for product design changes. Collaborate Globally: Partner with cross-functional teams spanning technical program management, architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical, supply chain, operations, safety, security, and legal to deliver world-class structural outcomes. Drive Innovation: Identify structural risks across the product portfolio, evaluate new materials and construction methods, and develop scalable solutions that advance the state of data center structural engineering. Who You Are You hold a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Structural, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with 8+ years of professional experience in structural design for commercial, industrial, or mission-critical facilities. You have expertise in seismic design and detailing for structural steel systems, and you are skilled in applying building codes and standards across multiple regions and international jurisdictions. You hold a Professional Civil/Structural Engineering (PE) License and have a track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing external design consultants on large-scale capital programs. You thrive in complex, fast-moving environments, excelling at communicating technical decisions and trade-offs to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders, and you are committed to mentoring and developing the engineers around you. Travel This role requires up to 25% domestic and international travel to support site walks, field observations, audits, and global project teams, sometimes with short notice.
