Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • PE license (multi-state preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in structural engineering with significant aviation project involvement.
  • Demonstrated experience with terminal renovations, concourse expansions, and hangar design.
  • Proficiency in Revit, and structural analysis software (e.g., RAM, ETABS, RISA).
  • Strong understanding of FAA standards and airport design principles.
  • Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of aviation buildings, facilities, or structures, and applying applicable regulations and governing codes.
  • Proven ability to manage scope, budget, and schedule across complex projects.
  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DEN, PHX, LAS, or other large hub airport projects.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Technical lead on aviation terminal, concourse, and hangar projects.
  • Lead structural design and coordination from concept through construction, ensuring safety, durability, and compliance.
  • Apply high-level structural engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various aviation project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, airport authorities, and stakeholders to deliver future-ready solutions.
  • Apply advanced structural engineering techniques to airside and landside infrastructure, including mass timber, seismic design, and sustainable systems.
  • Oversee development of construction documents, specifications, cost estimates, and phasing plans.
  • Conduct observations and investigations of existing and proposed facilities to ensure conformance with codes and standards.
  • Guide implementation of innovative technologies, modeling techniques, and materials.
  • Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs.
  • Support business development efforts and client engagement in the aviation sector.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team growth and technical excellence.
  • Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
  • Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines, other engineers, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.
  • Stay current with FAA advisory circulars, procedures, and design software (e.g., FAARFIELD, COMFAA).
