About The Position

The Iowa State University Athletics Department is seeking applications for a Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach to support Olympic sport student-athletes. This experienced professional will work under the supervision of the Director of Strength and Conditioning and will initially oversee Women’s Soccer plus 1–2 additional teams. Sport assignments may change at the discretion of administration. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive athletic development programs that reduce injury risk, enhance performance, and optimize individual and team success. Teach, demonstrate, and reinforce proper exercise technique, ensuring safety and adapting training based on individual needs and health status. Educate, motivate, and mentor student-athletes in all aspects of physical development. Test, assess, and monitor physical abilities including movement quality, mobility, strength, power, speed, agility, and aerobic/anaerobic fitness. Utilize performance technology to collect, analyze, and translate data into actionable insights for coaching staffs. Communicate and collaborate consistently with health, performance, and support units (Sports Medicine, Sports Nutrition, Mental Health), as well as coaches and administrators. Build strong, trusting relationships with head coaches and student-athletes to proactively address needs and requests. Assist with the management, safety, and cleanliness of assigned weight room facilities. Promote a competitive athletic environment that supports student-athlete well-being and academic success. Contribute to the broader needs of the Olympic Strength and Conditioning Department, including coaching additional sports and completing assigned duties. Foster positive and professional interactions with students, colleagues, university staff, alumni, media, and the public. Comply with all University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. The ideal candidates will possess advanced professional and technical skills in all areas of strength and conditioning; strong organization, analytical, and decision-making skills; and exceptional teaching, motivational, and communication skills. Candidates must be committed to multiculturalism and working effectively with a diverse student body. This position requires extended hours, some weekends work, and travel with assigned teams. Candidates will be required to have and maintain current certification through a nationally accredited strength and conditioning certification program in accordance with NCAA requirements. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. Employment or immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Full-time strength and conditioning coaching experience for a collegiate or professional athletics program.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the CSCCa.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certified within 30 days of hire.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
  • Candidates will be required to have and maintain current certification through a nationally accredited strength and conditioning certification program in accordance with NCAA requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performance training female soccer athletes in a NCAA Division I, professional level, or elite-level team setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time programming experience in speed, agility, and aerobic/anaerobic development.
  • Experience with injury reconditioning and the return-to-performance process.
  • Proficiency with performance technology (e.g., Teambuildr, Catapult, Vald, GymAware, Kitman Labs).
  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or related field.
