Job Summary: Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division has an exciting opportunity as a Senior Strategy Manager. The Senior Strategy Manager will lead a global team of strategy managers to initiate multiple initiatives to understand, analyze, develop and produce insights on the Large Electric Power Solutions business to create the strategy for the future.

Requirements

Obtains information regarding operational issues of other countries when making business decisions. Assesses key legal, regulatory, and financial issues specific to a particular country.   • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Level Extensive Experience: Develops, refines, and communicates tactical plans for own responsibilities. Provides the right level of detail as input for strategic plan development. Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan. Ensures attention to the detail and dependencies of existing departmental-level plans. Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives. Ensures the planning process is integrated with the overall business plan and prioritized to maximize value creation.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Level Expert: Works to create a climate that values and rewards good oral and written communication. Communicates effectively with diverse audiences, using appropriate media and language. Monitors developments in communications tools for potential use by organization. Writes reports, articles, or books for distribution to the business or professional community. Ensures important messages are clearly understood. Coaches others on methods of improving their own communications.
  • Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.
  • Level Extensive Experience: Directs strategic alliances and partnerships for mutual benefit. Makes sound business decisions on behalf of the group when faced with complex and contradictory alternatives. Builds the strategic thinking capability of the group. Interprets available data and analyses when creating business plans. Recommends ways to position the organization for long-term competitiveness. Prepares the group's response to key marketplace trends, opportunities, and vulnerabilities.
  • Visioning: Understanding of the value of articulating an intended business outcome and ability to create and communicates a vision of the organization that motivates others to superior performance.
  • Level Extensive Experience: Marks progress toward achieving the vision at key milestones and special events. Builds buy-in and ownership for the organization vision with key stakeholders. Escalates constructive dissent. Validates the consistency of group initiatives with the organizational vision. Articulates a picture of an ideal future state that inspires others. Involves others in creating the vision and supporting communications.

  • Lead a global team to produce strategies for the future success of all LEPS businesses in all regions.
  • Connect with internal and external partners to build a broad global market understanding to produce informed long-term forecasts.
  • Work closely with sales teams to ensure alignment and gain further insights on the future market view.
  • Lead the strategy team to drive objectives throughout the business to meet the opportunities for all LEPS business.
  • Produce insightful and clear executive reports to multiple areas of the business.
  • Work with peers and senior leaders prioritize objectives to meet the customers needs while maximizing value for the LEPS businesses.
  • Understand and analyze the LEPS business market factors – customer needs, competition regulatory, regional, application influences etc. at a deep level to develop insights to build robust strategies and plans.
