About The Position

The Sr. Strategic Programming and Events Specialist is responsible for developing and administering VIA's Social Responsibility program, including VIA Cares volunteer initiatives, partnership and sponsorship efforts, strategic initiatives programming, and event-based employee engagement activities, while maintaining standards, goal tracking, and support for major projects and promotions. This role also leads the design and execution of event-driven employee engagement and relations efforts within VIA's Internal Communications program, and oversees internal and external event planning and management by identifying opportunities, creating event plans, coordinating logistics, managing budgets, and ensuring successful execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, Business, or related field and 5 years' related experience, particularly with public offices/agencies, procurement processes, and protocols for outreach/interactions with executive/elected leaders. Experience may be substituted in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis up to four years.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work independently as well as lead teams toward goals and objectives.
  • Must be able to work well with a wide range of people and entities.
  • Must be able to establish, engage, and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Must possess good analytical and networking skills.
  • Must possess prior experience in public relations and engagement strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, directs, and maintains strategic plans that align, and support goals and objectives identified in VIA's strategic initiatives program and agency's overall mission and vision.
  • Designs and develops the annual programming strategies to include specific tasks, deliverables, timelines, team roles, interdepartmental contributions that support the goals/objectives/outcomes of the Strategy and Activation Plan.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communications teams to coordinate brand awareness and identify paid/earned media plans associated with the promotion of events and programming.
  • Conducts outreach to community stakeholders to establish sponsorship opportunities such as cash and in-kind assets.
  • Negotiates with vendors and partners to realize an outcome that is in the best interest of the agency.
  • Serves as Brand Ambassador for VIA; maintains role of “host” for major events involving key stakeholders, elected leaders, senior executives, and VIA Board members.
  • Analyzes programs' key performance metrics, monitors the impact of programs and optimizes as necessary.
  • Responsible for all aspects of VIA's Strategic Initiative Program budget to include development, management, and reporting.
